Island Wi-Fi Hotspot at New York Beach & Tennis Club
The Client
The Coveleigh Club, located on Milton Point in Rye, New York is a private membership club with beach and tennis facilities on 13 acres overlooking the beautiful Long Island Sound. Established in 1933, Coveleigh has grown from a summer club to a year-round facility featuring 11 tennis courts, an Olympic-size pool, platform tennis courts, lawn bowling, indoor and outdoor dining, a private pier and beach, and plenty of room for relaxing and enjoying the spectacular views.
Background
Coveleigh offers it's members a retreat, somewhere they can relax and spend time with family and friends. Over recent years, however, many members and guests have requested the use of internet connectivity at the club. Some sought the ability to stay connected to the office so they could continue work in a more comfortable environment, as well as conduct client meetings on the premises. Others simply wanted to surf the web and send e-mails while enjoying the club's relaxing atmosphere. With more and more members and guests having access to Wi-Fi enabled devices, Coveleigh quickly realized the opportunity to offer their members an added service while increasing club revenues. Coveleigh had specific ideas about what type of service they wanted to provide, including:
- a wireless broadband internet hotspot
- access throughout the clubhouse
- access points that would extend to outside locations including the beach, bar, patio and pool
The Solution
Coveleigh researched a number of service providers and selected Green Island Interactive for their Island Wi-Fi hotspot which is specifically designed for the needs of golf and country clubs. Green Island met with Coveleigh's management team and technical expert and conducted an initial site survey to establish the coverage area and best placement of the router, access points and external antenna. Once this phase was complete, Green Island:
- installed the router within the club house, separate from the club's network
- set up access points to extend the signal into difficult to reach areas of the clubhouse
- connected an all-weather antenna to transmit the signal outdoors
- established a secure login for members to access the internet
- helped Coveleigh get members up to speed on use of the new system
- established toll-free technical support numbers for end users
The Result
Member feedback is very positive and management are happy with increased food and beverage sales as members remain at the club longer. Management also anticipates higher bookings for corporate events and facilities due to the internet connectivity. The Island Wi-Fi solution has provided excellent signal coverage throughout the required areas, both inside and out. Island Wi-Fi has proved to be a cost effective member benefit that will increase in value over time as more members and guests use Wi-Fi enabled devices on a daily basis.
