About Green Island Interactive
Green Island Interactive is an internet solutions and consulting company that has been
providing clients in North America and Europe with creative and effective web
solutions since 1999. Due to strong growth and rapid expansion, the company now has an
opening for a Web Developer intern.
The Role
Green Island manages and maintains web sites and services on behalf of dozens of clients.
We're looking for someone with experience in web development and web design to help:
- convert graphic designs into working HTML and CSS pages
- develop new sites
- maintain current websites
- update sites with new content
- test sites
Start Date / Time Frame
This position is available immediately, or whenever the applicant is available to begin.
20+ hours per week expected during summer, possibly less during school terms. Open ended
contract, depending on performance.
Location
Although remote working is available, candidate should be within easy commuting distance of
Southern Westchester.
Experience
Some experience with web development is required. The following would be advantageous:
- Enrollment in Computer Science or related major
- Experience creating and deploying a working web site
- Experience coding web systems/services in Java a plus
- Experience with system planning, patterns, database planning, etc. a plus
Responsibilities
The applicant will work with his/her team leader. They should be mature and responsible,
with a high degree of pride in their work. The successful candidate would be responsible
for the following:
- Management of own schedule (while working to project milestones and deadlines)
- High standards for integrity of final product
- Understanding and enforcement of code standards & documentation
Technologies
Green Island uses predominantly Open Source and Java technologies. Knowledge of
many of the following is advantageous (in order of importance):
- HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX
- Adobe/Macromedia web tools (Dreamweaver, Contribute, Fireworks, Flash, etc.)
- Java, J2EE, JSP, Servlets
- Apache Server with Tomcat
- Struts framework
- MySQL, JDBC, ODBC
Skills
The successful candidate will possess many of the following skills:
- A basic understanding of object oriented design methodologies & patterns
- Solid communications skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- A positive, can-do attitude!
Environment
Applicants should be comfortable working in Windows. Any knowledge of the following a plus:
- OS: Windows (Linux a plus)
- IDE: Dreamweaver, Eclipse / MyEclipse
- Server: Apache server, Tomcat container
- Version Control: Subversion
Salary
Salary is negotiable, and largely dependant on experience and skill set. If you have specific
