About Green Island Interactive
Green Island Interactive is an internet solutions and consulting company that has been
providing clients in North America, Ireland and the U.K. with creative and effective web
solutions since 1999. Due to strong growth and rapid expansion, the company now has an
opening for a Junior Java Web Developer.
The Role
Green Island Interactive is constantly building new web sites and applications, and
maintaining and upgrading sites for our current clients. We're looking for a Junior
Java Web Developer to:
- Take direction from CTO and Team Leaders
- Implement & deploy new web sites (graphics supplied by designers)
- Regularly update, upgrade and trouble-shoot existing sites
- Document, test and assure quality of all work
Start Date - Time Frame
This position is open immediately, and needs to be filled as soon as possible. Although
this position is initially available as either a contract (6-8 month) or full time,
ideally it will be a contract with a view to full time depending on performance.
Teleworking is available, however candidate should be within easy commuting distance of
Dublin.
Experience
Although this is a junior role, solid "well rounded" experience with J2EE web development
is a must. The successful applicant should be mature and responsible. All of the following
are required:
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in CS or related major
- 1-3 years experience coding web sites or systems with J2EE technologies
- Diverse knowledge of Java and web technologies
Responsibilities
The successful candidate would be responsible for the following:
- Answering to CTO, team leads and project managers
- Some project management
- Occasionally liaising with clients
- Management of own schedule (while working to project milestones and deadlines)
- High standards for integrity of final product
- Understanding & enforcement of coding standards & documentation
Technologies
Green Island uses predominantly Java and Open Source technologies. Knowledge of many
of the following is required:
- Java, J2EE, JSP, Servlets
- Apache Server with Tomcat
- Struts framework
- MySQL, JDBC, ODBC
- HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX
- Adobe/Macromedia Software such as Dreamweaver, Contribute, Fireworks, Flash
Skills
The successful candidate will possess most or all of the following skills:
- Object oriented design methodologies and patterns, UML
- Experience with MVC architecture
- Solid communications skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- A positive, can-do attitude!
Environment
Applicants should be comfortable working in the following environments:
- Windows and Linux OS
- Eclipse / MyEclipse IDE
- Apache server, Tomcat container
- Subversion or other version control system
Salary
From €2k - 3k per month. Negotiable, and largely dependant on experience, and whether position is full-time
